Scratch4SL is an amazingly scripting tool, that will turn you into a script pro in a matter of seconds! And its FREE! Read Steve's blog on SLexperiments for more info, and more script tools tips.

Helgen har vært fylt med en salig blanding av 1. life og Second Life. Moldeklev blogger om en av de nyttige utfluktene som fant sted mellom slagene med objekter og script. Jeg har laget mitt første pedagogiske verktøy: Et alfabet hvor man kan spasere over bokstavene mens de leses - av meg.
Videoen kan jo synes som bare lek og morro, og det er det - i tillegg trening av digital kompetanse. Utgangspunktet for filmen var å lage en kort snurt med presentasjon av alfabetet, men som det pleier å bli, så ballet det på seg denne gangen også. Musikken inspirerte til å legge inn noen klipp fra søndagens ISTE Tour. Annenhver søndag tar mine venner Esme og Janita de som ønsker på en rundtur til spennende steder. Denne ganger var det forskjellig Universiteter som stod for tur.
Alfabetet - Step On ble laget ved at jeg tilførte lydfiler som ble importert (må være wav-filer 44100, 16 bit)og lagt ved et script (Step On) - begge plasseres i Content-fanen på Objectet. Til sammen ble 63 objecter tilsatt textures og 29 av disse også lydfiler go script. Deretter ble de satt sammen til ett object - som man kan gå på. En del arbeid for en newbie ...
Det er brukt mange verktøy i prosessen: Audacity - lydopptak, Switch - filkonverter, Camtasia - filming, og jeg satte opp en SkyBox 600 meter over kontoret - greit som et sted for å bygge. Underveis fikk jeg problemer med lydinnstillinger, noe som tok mange unødvendige minutter. Problemet var - ikke overraskende kanskje - Vista'n som ikke samarbeidet med Camtasia for opptak av høytalers lyd. Carolrb Roux is a typical - but also a special - teacher you'd be likely to run into, on one of the many edu-islands or edu-lands. "It's a pleasure, My pleasure" ... They're so friendly you always wish they were your best friends and part of the real life neighborhood. - Why don't they make them download-able?

When you step on one of these Halloween rugs, you can hear spooky sounds: cats screeming, ghost sounds and even worse ... We started talking about the different possibilites for education, and I thought that this idea could be great for language teachers. Carolrb - being a teacher that makes awesome creative stuff - had of course thought of this herself. So she showed me some stairs she made earlier for a ... must have been Spanish class, where whenever you took your foot on a step, a number was read out load (you had to have sound in sim on of course). I was thrilled! The best of it all - she then gives me a script to go - so I can make'm myself! I love these SL teachers!
So, this is how it goes:
You make an object
Attach a sound file in Content: must be a wav, no longer then 9.8 seconds and 44 100 Kz quality
Add the sound file name into the script

The Mysti Tool was the first tool I bought, and I do not regret it! It makes your Second Life a lot easier. If you're a newbie this tool is your first step out of that term. Some of the tools in SL is great, some are fun, some are junk and some are a big MUST! The Mysti Tool is a MUST!
At first when I was a newbie I felt a bit dumb at times, because others where so much quicker than I to see who was around, and they moved around quicker. I thought they were a lot smarter ... Well, it turned out they where not really that much smarter, they just had the technology on their side.
After I got this Mysti Tool, organizing landmarks got so much easier. Everytime I go somewhere I like, I just drag the landmark on to the Mysti Tool - easy to get a hold of again some other time. The history folder that displays in a nice menu every time I click the tool (is places in the HUD (i skjermbildet - Head Up Display) makes every favorite place just a click away - without having to search through folders. There are also some great options for teaching, that makes organizing and sessions easy and fun!

This is the main component of MystiTool. Simply wear it. You will see two grey buttons (circles) which can be clicked.
MystiTool Button = Click this to see the main menu.
More button options available on page 3 of the main menu, or you can say "/1 buttons".
============== MystiTool Implant ==============
This object is also worn. It must be worn on your avatar, not your hud. The implant currently provides these features:
1. Dust particles when flying. 2. Avatar finder with "/1 find name". 3. Local light emitter.
By default, flying particles are on. Say "/1 dust off" to turn off the flying particles, or "/1 dust" for color options. If you would like to find Mystical Cookie with a stream of particles, and they are within 96 meters, you can say "/1 find mys". The local light emitter may be turned on and off with "/1 light on" and "/1 light off".
================ MystiTool Land Relay ================
MystiTool allows you to ban, unban, unsit, and eject avatars, as well as set the parcel music stream url. Without the land relay object, this is possible only on land you own directly - NOT group owned. In order for the land commands to work on group owned land, the land relay object must be group deeded to the land. The land relay object also supports an access list, to allow other MystiTool users to relay their land commands through it. To modify the land relay's access list, please be within 5 meters of it and say "/1 relay help".
This object will store all your settings and allow you to restore them at later time. Simply rez the object and click it. MystiTool 1.0.6 or higher is required.
============= MystiTool Sleeper =============
This object may be placed on land you own to kindly request MystiTool users to enable sleep mode on their MystiTools. For group owned land, this will need to be deeded to the land.
============= Voice Commands =============
Most MystiTool features are accessible via menu and voice commands. The voice commands allow much more flexibility, and some features are accessible only by voice command.
To see available voice commands, say "/1 help". ================ Popular HUD Features ================
AV Follow ======
This will rez an avatar following chair. It will present you with a menu of targets to follow when it is rezzed. Simply sit in the chair, then select a target to follow. You may click the chair for more options. To have multiple chairs following an avatar, click the chair and select "Position" in the menu to adjust the chairs' positions.
Movelock ======
While this is enabled, MystiTool will attempt to hold you in your current position. It will not protect against "orbiting", but it will be effective against mild pushing. You may also say "/1 ml show" or "/1 ml hide" to toggle display of the movelock hud button.
Sky Platform ========
"Sky Plat" will rez an elevator which will move you to a desired height and rez a platform. "Platform" will rez a platform instantly where your av is positioned.
You may click the prims at the corners of the platform for more options. You may also click the elevator, after the platform has rezzed, for more options.
Table ====
This will rez a very low prim table with automatic seating. Please click the table for more options.
Scan Sim ======
This feature can be found by clicking the left hud button, then selecting "Privacy". "Scan Sim" will rez several temp-on-rez probes which fly to various positions in the sim. Each probe will report back to you any nearby avatars found. This can take up to 60 seconds in laggy sims. MystiTool will wait about one minute for all probes to report back their findings.

Fokuseringen på Second Life den siste tiden har ført til at noen norske lærere har tatt kontakt - enten i SL eller via andre forum. Det er kjempemorro, og spørsmålene jeg får er ofte de samme og dreier seg omkring: Hvordan kan man bruke SL i undervisning?

Horizon Holodeck Pro er et av mange nyttige verktøy i Second Life. Det som gjør dette så spesielt er at det på mange måter er et lite Second Life, i Second Life. For språkundervisning er dette skatt. Her kan du skreddersy egne rom, med øvelser og simulatorer. Det har ellers alle muligheter for å integrere multimedia, eller hva du må ønske.
Horizon Pro koster 5000 L$, ca hundralappen. Her får du mye for pengene! Det følger med flere shells (boksen simulatoren kjøres i, kommer med forsjkelllige størrelser) og sceenes (forskjellige scener). I tillegg kan du bygge egne (har ikke kommet dit enda), og disse kan du også legge i en fellesbank, og selge dem videre. På den måten kan du faktisk spare den inn. Forskjellige scener varierer fra omkring 500 L$ (10 ,,r.) og opp til flere tusen Linden.
Diginalet Holodeck har jeg plassert 300 meter over Diginalet HQ, kontoret mitt. Uten ekstra kostnader (betaler 40 kr. pr. mnd for leie av et romslig kontor). I tillegg har jeg startet en gruppe: Diginalet, som fokuserer på digitale verktøy for undervisning i SL. Dette er en grei måte å samle ressursene på, og å dele erfaringer og kjennskap til hva og hvor man kan finne gratis verktøy. Det er mye gratis, og lærere er spesielt fokusert på deling og samarbeid. Responsen har vært god!Den første grupp notice, jeg sender blir om Holodeck Pro.
Det er vanskelig å forklare med ord - eller film - hvor fantasimulastisk Holodeck Pro er for undervisning. Det må oppleves - som resten av Second Life. Undervisning blir aldri mer det samme. Nå blir det før og etter Holodec Pro c",)
